Let’s go back a few months to late November 2007. An event amongst my friends from my college days takes place. There is an ‘expecting baby’ announcement. The first amongst this group. Immediately I began to think of all the different things I could make for the expecting mother and the baby.
I knew right off the bat that I wanted to make a baby blanket. I had a ton of hand-me-down yarn from my mother that was meant for baby items. So I started working on a simple double-crochet blanket. It took me about a month to finish working on it off and on. I then decided to crochet bib.
I found a pattern from Bernat for a simple pattern and went to work. I had never made a bib before and I was surprised at how quickly I finished it.
For mommy-to-be I decided to finish up a shawl that I began several years ago. (Actually it was supposed to be an afghan initially but I won’t get into why I never finished it) I spent some time weaving in the ends after edging the piece. It curved slightly so it draped around the shoulders nicely.
I finally managed to package it all up and ship it this week. It arrived, according to mommy-to-be, today and from what I can tell she really likes them. That makes me happy.
There was only one thing that made me wince, and really it is in all likely-hood that she can’t tell the difference, but she thanked me for knitting the blanket…
